How to select your carrier oil?

There are many carrier oils available. Most are suitable to use with any essential oil, but you should consider a few things before choosing one.

  • Odor: A few carrier oils have a distinct odor. When added to an essential oil, it may alter the aroma.
  • Absorption: Your skin can absorb some carrier oils better than others.
  • Skin type: Depending on your skin type, some oils may irritate skin or worsen a skin condition such as acne.
  • Shelf life: Some carrier oils can be stored for longer periods than others without going bad.

Which oils are carrier oils?

Do essential oils need a carrier oil?

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts and can be very potent. While some essential oils can be applied directly to the skin (e.g. Tea tree oil and Rosehip oil), it's generally recommended to dilute them with a carrier oil, especially for sensitive skin or when using oils on larger areas of the body.

Carrier oils help dilute the essential oils, making them safer to apply to the skin and reducing the risk of irritation or adverse reactions. Carrier oils also help to spread the essential oil over a larger surface area, ensuring more even application and absorption into the skin.
